About Maria Chesley Fisk
Dr. Maria Chesley Fisk, creator of ThinkParenting.com and author of Teach Your Kids to Think: Simple Tools You Can Use Every Day, is an educational consultant. Maria is a translator of educational and psychological research for parents. She knows that children’s first and most important teachers, their parents, need and deserve accessible and friendly support that is research-based and high-quality. She provides materials and parent workshop opportunities for reflection, learning, and support. She is completing booklets that will support parents as they use tools in her book. Maria earned a distinguished bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Virginia. Shortly after graduation, she realized she was more wholeheartedly committed to her volunteer work with children in northeast Washington, D.C. than her job in business consulting. She then completed an M.Ed. in preschool through middle school education at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Maria loved being an elementary school teacher in public and private schools. She returned to school for an M.A. and Ph.D. in educational studies at the University of Michigan. Since then, she has directed a teacher training program, provided professional development for teachers and administrators, served as a consultant to schools and school districts, and currently contributes to a project about digital games. Maria lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband, two boisterous boys, a black lab, and a bit of dust.
